About us

We offer the 3 hour block of performing arts.

Each class is 1 hour duration (apart from the Infants Class which is a 2 hour class and cannot be split).

It is preferable to study the 3 hours, in-order to obtain “the all round experience” for auditions, performance and confidence.

Please Note: Your child will be assessed during the first class. That assessment will determine the day/time your child continues attending classes at the stage school.

CHEERLEADING

Cheerleading is a recent form of dance, which originated in the USA. It includes pom dance, gymnastics and stunting. Cheerleading encourages confidence and team work. Students regularly compete in national competitions.

TAP - I.D.T.A
Tap is a rhythmic dance involving specific shoes allowing the wearer to create sound in a fun and exciting way. Tap will build upon your child’s musicality, co-ordination and confidence. The syllabus taught has been designed to increase upon precision and timing and nationally recognised exams can be taken.

BALLET - I.D.T.A
Ballet is a classical style which combines grace, co-ordination, strength and flexibility. The syllabus encourages good posture, fluidity of movement, elevation and pupils are able to express and enjoy themselves within the free movement sections. In doing this, they are able to progress through nationally recognised examinations. Ballet itself is the “stem of all dance” and therefore highly recommended.

INFANTS CLASS
This is your child’s introduction to our stage school. Through these classes your child learns to take direction. Your child will learn to work co-operatively with others within the group. This class is created to encourage your child to develop in confidence, increase vocabulary and enhance co-ordination skills.
Your child will be encouraged to explore drama, dance, songs and music in a fun, but learning situation.

FREESTYLE
Freestyle is a less strict discipline of dance. Students study freestyle to focus more on style and performance, whilst building technique. Freestyle is a recent form of dance, incorporating hip-hop, street and jazz. Freestyle is highly recommended for anyone wishing to perform as it builds upon the character traits.

VOCAL TRAINING & MUSIC
Vocal and Music Training classes follow a curriculum of theory and musicianship workshops supplemented by a syllabus of selected songs which the children prepare. The theory and musicianship course is designed to give the student a basic knowledge of written music. This course works towards a music theory test which examines your child’s progress over the term.
The syllabus of songs chosen by our vocal tutors reflect the current trend of audition repertoire which is used in the Musical Theatre profession. Emphasis is not only placed on the rudiments of learning the song, but also on the personal progress of your child’s confidence. Furthermore, musical training from an early age has been proven to aid a child’s further education in later life due to the expressive and motivational nature of performing.

DRAMA
Drama classes offer students the opportunity to learn a variety of skills and techniques that can be applied to stage and screen.
Students are encouraged to develop their abilities and experience participation through the varied dramatic media, such as, improvisation, mime, scripted performance, physical theatre, tableux, solo speech lessons and audition preparation.
As well as offering exceptional actor training, the classes provide a safe environment, where students can build confidence, learn how to work as a team and improve their communication and interpersonal skills.
Drama classes are seen as essential to many aspects of music and dance.

THEATRE CRAFT - I.D.T.A
Theatre Craft is a dance form which improves upon musicality, performance and general dance ability. Theatre Craft is essential as it focuses on musical theatre. Students have the opportunity to take exams at all levels.

DANCE & CHOREOGRAPHY
Dance and Choreography is a class offered by invitation only. The students must be auditioned, and be of a high standard of dance to be considered for a place within the class.
We work on different routines, to set pieces of music, using many styles of dance, street, modern, jazz, funk, salsa and hip-hop to name but a few. The choreographed dance movements may involve personal interpretation of the music, or the mood of the piece. Students work on solos, duets, small groups, or as a whole group.
The class works toward a finished piece which is used in our library of routines.
This class has many opportunities for professional performance, commercial and advertising, theatre productions and festivals.

MODERN JAZZ - I.D.T.A
Modern is a newer style of dance which incorporates various different techniques, some of which are flexibility and style. Modern is essential for anyone wanting to dance. As with other dance subjects, students are encouraged to take examinations.

All students are continuously assessed throughout their time at the Betty Fox Stage School.
